Retaining Walls & Seating Walls

Engineered retaining walls and custom seating walls built to handle Northern Virginia's clay soils,
slopes, and freeze–thaw — no shortcuts.

Retaining Walls & Seating Walls

A retaining wall is structural. We engineer ours with proper base, drainage, geo-grid reinforcement on tall walls, and the right block or stone for the load. Seating walls double as functional patio borders that turn a hardscape into a real entertainment space. Both built to last — and to look like they belong.

Engineered Retaining & Seating Wall Construction

Segmental block, natural stone, and poured concrete walls — engineered for slope, drainage, and the load behind them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How tall can a retaining wall be without engineering?
A: In most NoVA jurisdictions, walls under 4 feet (measured base to top) don’t need stamped engineering. Anything taller does — we handle it.
A: Almost always drainage. Water builds up behind the wall, freezes, and pushes it out. We always build with proper drainage rock and weep outlets.
A: Yes — that’s exactly what they’re for. We often tier walls instead of building one big one for better looks and lower cost.
A: Block is cheaper, more consistent, and easier to engineer. Natural stone looks better and lasts as long if built right.
A: Walls over 3 or 4 feet usually require permits in Loudoun, Fairfax, and PW County. We confirm before quoting.
